A 90-year-old woman was pulled alive from a collapsed house in western Japan, five days after a massive earthquake struck the region, killing at least 126 people.

The woman from Suzu city in Ishikawa Prefecture survived Monday's 7.6-magnitude earthquake that shook the area for 124 hours.

Chances of survival generally decrease after the first 72 hours.

Among the 126 dead was a five-year-old boy who was recovering from injuries sustained when boiling water was poured on him in Monday's earthquake.

According to authorities in Ishikawa Prefecture, the hardest-hit region, his condition suddenly deteriorated and he died on Friday.
