92 countries apply for foreign Oscar

Film entries from 92 countries are up for the so-called 2023 Foreign Oscars, the announcement was made by the Oscar Academy on Tuesday (local time) in Beverly Hills, California. For Austria, Sisi’s drama “Corsage” by Marie Kreutzer is in the “International Feature Film” category. “Tembele” is Uganda’s first entry among the foreign nominees for the 95th Academy Awards in March.

Switzerland is represented with “Drii Winter” by director Michael Koch, Germany is starting with “Nothing New in the West” by Edward Berger, France with “Saint Omer” by filmmaker Alice Diop, Mexico with “Bard, the chronicle invented from a handful of Truths” by Oscar winner Alejandro González Iñárritu. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences initially selects 15 films from all international submissions. This “shortlist” will be announced on December 21st. By the end of January, five films will be nominated for the final round. The Oscar ceremony is scheduled for March 12, 2023.
