The ceasefire in the confrontation between Hamas and Israel, which began on Friday (November 24), is marked by the release of dozens of detainees on both sides of the conflict. Some of the publications are causing a stir on the Internet, as in the case of little Emily Hand, 9 years old, who was reunited with her father after being held hostage by the extremist group that controls the Gaza Strip.
The image of Emily’s return to her family is one of the most shared videos on social media this Sunday (November 26), the third day of the humanitarian pause. In a video released by the Israeli government, the child of Irish origin hugs his father, Thomas Hand.
Emily even appeared on a list of deaths as a result of the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7th. However, the girl was among the fundamentalist group’s 240 hostages and not among the approximately 1,200 Israelis who lost their lives in the incidents.
Hamas has already released 54 people during the ceasefire brokered by the Qatari government. On the other side of the war, Tel Aviv claims to have already released 78 Palestinians who were imprisoned on Israeli territory for minor crimes or without formal charges.
The ceasefire is scheduled to end this Monday (November 27), but there is a possibility that the break could be extended to up to ten days under the pretext of the daily release of at least ten hostages. During this period, air traffic is suspended for eight hours a day in the northern part of the Gaza Strip and for 24 hours in the southern part.
According to Palestinian health authorities, around 14,800 people died in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, 40% of them children.
