It was one of the top trends at CES 2023; the U-Scan is owned by a French company.
The first connected home urinalysis laboratory
With his U-Scan, the French company Withings, hopes to revolutionize the toilet by analyzing the composition of urine his user directly to his home.
Analyze the composition of the user’s urine right at home
The principle of the U-Scan is simple: positioned in the toilet bowl, thanks to its reader it is about the urine, then a replaceable cartridge system will analyze it. There is no need to take external samples or strips.
Each cartridge consists of dozens of test capsules that allow testing for specific biomarkers. Once this versatile system is in the meter, it can be customized for an almost unlimited number of medical and healthcare applications simply by modifying the test capsules. Depending on the results obtained, the Withings application will provide advice such as recipes or activities to achieve the goals set by the U-Scan user.
U-Scan will be launched in the second half of 2023
A second cartridge (U-Scan Cycle Sync) allows women to know where they are in their menstrual cycle with information to better hydrate and nourish themselves. U-Scan will be launched in the second half of 2023.
On the pricing side, users can purchase the U-Scan Starter Kit for €499.95 to get a U-Scan reader and a cassette (Cycle Sync or Nutri Balance) that offers up to 3 months of testing. Users can then choose to subscribe to auto-fill and in-app coaching for an estimated monthly cost of €29.95, or purchase cartridges individually from the withings.com website.
Thirteen patents filed
Note that U-Scan is the result of four years of work and thirteen patents filed to achieve a non-invasive urinalysis system.
