Former ‘Making the Band’ star charged with sex trafficking in Las Vegas

A rapper and former reality TV character faces sex trafficking charges in an ongoing criminal investigation in Las Vegas that alleges he used his large social media following to recruit women as prostitutes, police say .

Records showed Wednesday that Kevin Lamont Barnes Jr., 37, was arrested Monday and released Tuesday without bail from the Clark County Detention Center pending a preliminary hearing on May 10.

Barnes, who uses the name Chopper and starred in the MTV reality series Making the Band in the early 2000s, was represented in court by a public defender. Later it was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer who could speak for him.

Details of the investigation were not immediately released by the police or prosecutors.

Celebrity website TMZ said it received documents showing an undercover deputy detective posing as a sex worker said Barnes used social media to tell the person to go to Charlotte, North Carolina. travel to become part of his “team”.
