In 2004, Corneille, 27, had phenomenal success with his first album, Because We Come From Far Away (Alone In The World), in which he shared in songs the horrifying experience of his youth when his family was involved in the Rwandan genocide was murdered before his eyes. The singer had lived in Montreal for seven years.

At the ADISQ Gala 2004 with Marie-Élaine Thibert, finalist of the Star Académie. Both won the Félix for Actor of the Year. Corneille walked with two other statuettes that night, that of Best Music Video for Because We Come From Far Away and that of Quebec Artist Who Had Most Success Outside Quebec.

From Montreal to Paris

2004. The quarry was running at 100 miles per hour. Corneille’s popularity had already crossed our borders and France was already clamoring for him. The singer had also received his prized Canadian citizenship. Always smartly dressed, he had been voted Quebec’s Man of the Year that year.

Unforgettable funny moment at the 2005 ADISQ Gala. Isabelle Boulay won the Félix for the most successful artist outside of Quebec, an award Corneille had won the previous year. As she walked onto the stage, she smeared her nose with the black foundation of the singer who kissed her. To save the honor, the gentleman had gone onto the stage to gently wipe Isabelle’s face.

Mont-Tremblant, September 2006. Corneille is marrying the woman of his life, singer-songwriter Sofia de Medeiros, whom he proposed less than five months after they met. They are 17 in love this year and have two beautiful children, Merik, 11, and Mila, 6. Together they wrote the singer’s songs, including those for Encre Rose.

  • Corneille is one of the new coaches of The voice, surrounded by Marjo, Mario Pelchat, experienced trainer Marc Dupré and host Charles Lafortune. He intends to encourage participants to stay honest and enjoy the present moment. The voice will be shown Sundays at 7pm on TVA.
