Wind gusts on Saturday at the end of the lake forced firefighters to multiply trips. “From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. we performed about forty to secure fallen trees or scaffolding. Suddenly we had to recall about fifteen engineers who were on leave,” explained Lieutenant Nicolas Millot, Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) communications officer. In particular, a poplar fell, cutting off Avenue Wendt in the Servette district. The tree’s fall also caused property damage to street furniture (see slideshow below).
gusts of 80 km/h
Hardwoods aren’t the only ones to collapse under the gusts of wind. There were also ice cubes. “Water from recent rains has frozen onto the blueprints at the top of certain buildings and the wind is lifting the ice cubes, the communicator described. We urge passers-by to exercise caution, especially when near scaffolding. In this case it is better to raise your head to be sure you can pass in complete safety. These incidents did not cause any injuries. According to MeteoSwiss, gusts of up to 80 km/h could still blow in Geneva on Saturday evening.
