Poland: More than 500 million euros for Ukrainian refugees

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki recently complained to the newspaper “Bild” (Thursday edition): His country welcomes “2.5 million refugees, to whom we Poles open our doors and our hearts. The EU didn’t pay us a penny for this, by far.”

After the list, Germany received around 75.5 million euros. Hundreds of millions went to Eastern European countries such as Romania, Estonia and Hungary.

64,183 refugees from Ukraine in Austria

The funds come from the Assistance for the Reconstruction of Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (REACT-EU). This could be used to fund food, accommodation, medical care, education or jobs for refugees arriving from Ukraine, the EU Commission said.

As of Tuesday morning, 64,183 people displaced from Ukraine were registered in Austria. 293,700 Ukrainians have entered Austria since the start of the war about two months ago, the vast majority – about 83% of them – have traveled.
