Rita Ora finally explained what’s really going on in these pics with Tessa Thompson and Taika Waititi

Almost two years ago, a single photo shook the internet to its core. Of course I’m talking about this picture of Taika Waititi, Rita Ora and Tessa Thompson participating in a threesome smooch athon.

Back in July 2021, Taika — who married Rita just last year — responded to all the chatter surrounding the photos. “I think things move pretty fast in the world of the internet,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald at the time. “And besides, is it such a big deal? No not true. I did nothing wrong.

Now, Rita has finally addressed all the chatter herself in a new interview with Britain’s GQ, in which she responds to rumors that she, Taika and Tessa were in a throuple.

“I’ve chosen not to acknowledge that because it’s ridiculous,” she explained. “I think when some things are so absurd and it’s hard to make sense of them, you just have to ignore them.”

She added: “I’ve taken this approach to a lot of things because you don’t want to expend energy on something that doesn’t exist. It’s like trying to explain something that didn’t happen means you don’t flow into anything.”

Rita also explained what was going on when the trio were photographed by the paps…sort of. “Have you ever been in a situation where you drank a lot and everyone is your best friend?” she asked rhetorically. “And then the next day you’re like, ‘I’ve been talking to this person in the smoking area for four hours and I have no idea who she is’?”

She continued, “Literally — that [photo] was just a bunch of friends having a good time. she [Taika and Tessa] had a crazy schedule and everyone was letting go. I love that. To each their own.”

There was a silver lining to the whole conversation, though: “The good news, however, is that all of my incredible LGBTQIA+ fandom, when I spoke to my fans on Twitter, they were actually like — whether that’s true or not — ‘I’m like that.’ inspired that this will be normalized publicly,” she said.

“That made me really happy. You don’t know who it touches.”
