Zach Shallcross Responds To Fans And Critics Who Call Him The ‘Boring Bachelor’: ‘I Think The Fans Are Gonna Love It’

ABC debuted season 27 of The Bachelor on Monday night, which already has fans and critics alike calling new Bachelor Zach Shallcross the “boring Bachelor.”

Shallcross, 26, has already seriously cut the field of 30 women vying for his heart, sending 10 women home on the first night, the most in 12 years.

Despite the massive eliminations, Rolling Stone critic Andrea Marks said she fell asleep during the premiere, and Shallcross responded to claims that he was boring in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published after the premiere.

When asked what he’s excited about for fans this season, he believes fans will be “pleasantly surprised.”

“Fans will be pleasantly surprised, because right now the #1 concern is probably, ‘Okay, it’s this boring Bachelor, and there’s going to be no drama,'” he began.

“The reality is, if you’re someone who likes the show because you want people to find true love and actually focus on what it’s supposed to be about — not the acting, not this and that — then I think that the fans are going to love it,” he added.

“If you’re into unnecessary drama and stuff that’s just ridiculous and doesn’t make sense, then yeah, maybe I’m not the guy for you. But I think what I’m really looking forward to is everyone seeing the personalities of everyone involved, because that wasn’t necessarily something that was in The Bachelorette,” he added.

Shallcross continued, “People don’t necessarily know who I am and this season you’re all going to see me. It’s the good, the bad, the silly – the side that’s never really been shown. That’s what I’m looking forward to when people see it.”

The reality star makes a living as a senior cloud technology account executive for Oracle, but also has a celebrity connection: his uncle is actor Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld).

When asked if his famous uncle had any advice for his season, Shallcross said he had some tips.

“Uncle Pat gave me some advice. Most importantly, he is always supported [me] because he knows how overwhelming it can be to be on TV,” Shallcross said.

“But he just kept saying, ‘Hey, keep your cool. Don’t let what people say about you, what you think about yourself.” So that was the most important thing,” he said.

Shallcross made his television debut on season 19 of The Bachelorette with Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia, co-Bachelorette.

He chose Recchia exclusively and placed third in their group before being selected as The Bachelor.
