A weather warning of strong winds and gusts of up to 110km/h has been issued as the search for missing British actor Julian Sands enters its 10th day.
On Monday, January 23, the National Weather Service reported strong winds affecting the mountainous region of Santa Ana and San Bernandino near the San Gabriel Mountains, where Sands is believed to have disappeared.
A warning warned of possible power outages, travel disruption and the risk of falling trees: “The strongest winds will blow along south-facing slopes and foothills, below Morongo Pass, and through and below the gorges of Santa Ana Mountain,” the report said .
On Friday, ground crews had to stop searching for Sands due to the danger of avalanches in the area.
“The aerial search is resuming, but due to the freezing conditions and avalanche danger, we have not yet been able to resume the ground search,” said Gloria Huerta, public information officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Julian Sands, a prolific actor with more than 150 films, has disappeared while hiking.
The British star is believed to have been somewhere along California’s popular Baldy Bowl Trail, which climbs 3,900 feet over 4.5 miles to the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Search and rescue teams search for Sands, with the actor’s friends, including Matthew Modine, Rufus Sewell and film producer Frank Marshall, expressing their hope that he will be found safely.

Authorities say there is no set deadline for the end of the search
US authorities have said there is “no firm deadline” yet to call off the search for Julian Sands.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the incident is still being classified as a search and rescue operation.
“We will plan another ground search when the weather improves and it is safe for our ground crews,” a department spokesman said.

British film producer Cassian Elewes shared a heartfelt message
Elewes also shared a note about Sands on Twitter.
“Since Friday I have known that my friend Julian Sands is missing on mt Baldy. I am devastated. A very close family friend who was an adventurer in everything he did. I said many prayers,” he wrote.

“I would know #JulianSands a little bit back in the 80’s when his brother shared a mouse infested apartment with my best friend,” Coles wrote on Twitter.

Federal authorities have joined the search for Sands
A reminder that both national and state officials are now working with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office to locate Sands.
“We are working with state and federal agencies that have cellphone forensics to assist us in pinpointing a location, but no new information has been developed to date,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, the was shared on Friday (January 20).
