thousands in "March of the Living" in Auschwitz pulse24

According to organizers, about 2,000 young Jews from different countries on Thursday commemorated the victims of the Holocaust in Poland. During a “March of the Living”, they walked the 3.2 kilometer route from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest of the German death camps during the Nazi era, along with some Shoah survivors. The memorial event took place again for the first time after a two-year break due to the corona pandemic.

The starting signal for the march, which also passed through the gate with the cynical inscription “Work makes you free”, came from a shofar, a Jewish ritual musical instrument. There were also eight survivors and refugees from Ukraine. One speaker recalled the suffering that is taking place in the neighboring country of Poland as a result of the Russian war of aggression.

Polish President Andrzej Duda had already commemorated the victims of Auschwitz. On the wall of death, where prisoners were shot, Dudley laid a wreath. The name Auschwitz has been etched into consciousness around the world as synonymous with the Holocaust and the epitome of evil. There alone, the National Socialists killed over a million people, most of them Jews. During the Shoah they murdered around six million Jews across Europe.
