(CNN) Nick Sands, brother of Julian Sands, told a British publication he knew “in his heart” the actor was “gone” as California authorities continue to search for him.
Julian Sands was first reported missing on January 13 from the Mt. Baldy, California area.
According to a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department, authorities are “entering the second full week of their search for missing hiker Julian Sands. Sands has not been located and no evidence of his current whereabouts has been found.”
The other walker, Jin Chung, a 75-year-old Los Angeles resident, who was last seen Sunday, was found with “some weather-related injuries and a leg wound, but was able to walk with help from team members”.
Chung “was transferred to a local hospital for treatment,” the press release said. “There is no further information at this time.”
Authorities said they are continuing their search for 65-year-old Sands, who is remembered for his roles in A Room with a View, The Killing Fields and Arachnophobia.
His older brother spoke to Craven Herald & Pioneer about his fears over his brother’s disappearance.
“He hasn’t been pronounced dead yet, but I know in my heart that he’s gone,” Nick Sands said. “However, knowing about sibling rivalry, it would be like he’d come up to prove me wrong.”
Nick Sands also spoke about his brother’s love of hiking.
“When he was in Los Angeles, the Mt. Baldy Range was his favorite place, he went there as often as he could,” Sands said. “Julian liked to say, ‘I’ve never had a holiday, but I take a break every now and then’. Well, now he’s resting in a place that I would really approve of.”
Officials warned in their statement, “Many hikers, experienced and inexperienced, underestimate the steep terrain, unpredictable weather, and high winds that our mountainous areas experience” and advised that “hikers are currently avoiding dangerous mountainous areas like Mt. Baldy.”
