Andrea Rocchelli’s mother is appealing to the Hague tribunal. The family of the Pianello-based photojournalist who was killed by mortar shells in Sloviansk, Donbass, in 2014 has decided not to put up with the Court of Cassation’s verdict, which finally acquitted him Vitaly Markiv.

The latter had been sentenced to 24 years in prison for directing the attack that caused the death of the then 30-year-old photojournalist. Against this statement now Eliza Signori, Andy’s mother, has decided to appeal to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. This was announced via the article21.org website.

Elisa Signori announced that she “brought the case to the attention of the court in The Hague, convinced that it is an appropriate, just and necessary action, since the past and current tragedy in Ukraine shows the brutality of a regular one attack does not diminish military forces against a civilian target and does not change the meaning of an attack on freedom of information, nor diminish the responsibility of those who ordered, carried out or supported it”.
