Packet service in the wrong way. Exploitation and wage dumping as a business model for parcel service providers. Police and finance carried out house searches across Austria. Tennengau companies affected.
OBERALM/SALZBURG. The Salzburg Chamber of Commerce welcomes the authorities’ actions against the black sheep in the parcel services sector. Three attacks, including one in Salzburg, have shown how workers in the transport industry are also being exploited in Austria.
According to an ORF report, the Ministry of Finance released more details about the suspects in the raids on major transport companies in Salzburg, Upper Austria, Styria and Vienna.
A parcel service provider in Salzburg is suspected of illegally employing parcel couriers under its command and bogus self-employed subcontractors. “Independent” carriers come from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Syria, Bulgaria and Hungary.
Wage dumping as a business model
Men work in unacceptable working conditions. Wage dumping, alleged coercion by customers and illegal and dangerous driving and working times of up to 77 hours straight without breaks were the order of the day.
According to the financial police, a parcel service would have employed many of these subcontractors. For data protection reasons, no other details of the investigation could be released, according to the Ministry of Finance.
