“No contracts for the purchase of armaments,” says the Italian Ministry of Defense. The reference relates to the alleged agreement, reported by French daily l’Opinion, that at yesterday’s Rome summit between Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and his trans-Alpine counterpart Sébastien Lecornu negotiated a joint deal to purchase 700 Aster- 30 missiles for the Samp-T air defense system to be allocated to Ukraine at a total cost of 2 billion euros. “This is unsubstantiated news. No military supply contract was signed, discussed or even mentioned during the meeting between the Italian defense minister and his French counterpart,” the defense statement said. Yesterday the Italy-France meeting took place in Rome. The Aster 30 missiles have a range of 120 km and are manufactured by Eurosam, an Italian-French consortium. They are missiles that can be used by both naval units and land launchers and are mainly used for anti-aircraft purposes.
