Kate Middleton announces the exciting next chapter in her royal work for young children – PEOPLE

Kate Middleton is leading an exciting new campaign to highlight the importance of a child’s early years.

The Princess of Wales, 41, published a letter on Saturday announcing the new campaign for her Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood.

“This week I’m delighted to announce that the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood will launch a major new awareness campaign highlighting the critical importance the first five years of our lives have in shaping the adults we become ‘ the mother of three wrote. “In our very early childhood, our brains are developing at an amazing rate—faster than at any other time in our lives. Our experiences, relationships, and environments at this young age shape the rest of our lives. It is a time when we lay the foundations and building blocks for life. It is when we learn to understand ourselves, understand others and understand the world we live in.”

“But as a society, we’re currently spending a lot more time and energy on later life,” she continued. “I am determined that this long-term campaign will change that. She will begin by showing how we develop in early childhood and why those years are so important in shaping who we become. I am joined by a remarkable panel of experts from academia, research, policy and practice, as well as an exciting group of well-known faces from music, sports and television, to show us all why it is in our collective interest to care.”

“We all need to know how important our early childhood is,” Kate said. “They really are years like no other in our lives. I urge everyone reading this to take this opportunity to learn more about this incredible time in their lives, to think back to their childhood and how it shaped you, and most importantly, to ask themselves what you can do to help To make the world a more supportive and loving place for our children. Because healthy, happy children create a healthy, happy future.”

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “The Princess has taken an active role at every stage of this campaign.”

Just like the Royal Foundation’s Heads Together campaign, which focused on “creating an openness to talk about mental health, the Princess really wants this campaign to bring about a change in the way we think about early Think years and see their meaning. That’s very much the beginning. And I think this will be a major focus of their work well beyond next week. And I am sure that this will be a common thread throughout her working life.

Princess Kate, 41, launched the Early Childhood Center in June 2021 to “raise awareness of why the first five years of life are so important to our future life outcomes and what we can do as a society to seize this unique opportunity.” to create happier, spiritually healthier and more caring societies.”

The center grew out of a decade of Kate’s work in public life, during which she recognized that so many of life’s challenges – from mental health to addiction – can be rooted in difficulties that children and their families face early in life .

Last week, Kate met a group of eight professionals from academia, science and early childhood who she has chosen to bring her voice to her work around children’s early childhood. Princess Kate first met her at Windsor Castle in her role as her Advisory Group.

Palace officials explain that the group – which has expertise in areas including neuroscience, psychology, perinatal psychiatry and policy development – will support Princess Kate and the center “as work accelerates to promote the vital importance of a child’s first five years . ”

The palace also announced that Christian Guy has been appointed director of the centre.

Kate, a mother of three, undertook a fact-finding trip to a nursery earlier this month to highlight the work being done there. She spoke to educators about the formative character of the early years and heard from parents how kindergarten changes their children’s lives.
