Mogadishu, January 29 (Prensa Latina) Somali security forces killed 136 militants from extremist group Al-Shabab and wounded 100 others during a military operation in the southern region of Lower Shabelle, a government source reported today.
Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Yusuf Adala announced at a press conference that the army and allied forces west of Janale district also destroyed a logistics base of the insurgent formation, which recently suffered the loss of hundreds of members.
Such information comes hours after that country’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that the second phase of the war against the radical group will begin in parts of the south-west state in the coming days.
As a result of al-Shabab’s sweeping control over areas in central and southern Somalia, the President last May declared all-out war on the extremist entity, which sows terror with its attacks using suicide bombings and other irregular warfare tactics. (Source: Latin Press)
