The moment the Jets hired the former Green Bay offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackettthe link was made between the veteran QB-needy Jets and the four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.

And the latest report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter should only add fuel to the fire.

The Packers organization prefers to walk away from Rodgers, and that the quarterback “is aware of the Packers’ take on the situation,” Schefter reports, citing league sources.

Schefter points to three reasons the Packers would attempt to move away from Rodgers: financial implications, the overall health of the franchise, and the overall feelings of the team and quarterback.

The Packers are expected to be more than $16 million over the cap, according to ESPN, but the structure of Rodgers’ contract gives the team some time — $58.3 million of Rodgers’ $59.5 million is for the Season 2023 guaranteed and structured as an option bonus, and the Packers have from the start of the new league year (March 15) until the start of the regular season in September to decide whether or not to exercise this bonus.

SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes wrote earlier this week that the Jets put themselves in a direct line with Rodgers by hiring Hackett as their new OC, and with the quarterback position being Gang Green’s biggest need, the Jets need to aggressively move in her quest to be the future Hall of Famer.

Rodgers won consecutive MVPs with Hackett as his OC in 2020 and 2021.
