The warning strike in the handling area at Düsseldorf Airport has ended. The day-long strike, which saw around 110 take-offs and landings on Friday, ended around 12:30 pm, an airport spokesman confirmed on Saturday morning. In the meantime, flight operations at the airport are back to normal and unrestricted.

The baggage and aircraft handling staff strike on Friday canceled more than a third of the approximately 290 planned connections. There were also delays.

The Verdi union called on the approximately 700 employees of Aviapartner, a baggage and aircraft carrier, to withdraw. According to Verdi, the participation rate in the warning strike was around 90% on Friday morning. According to a spokesman, Aviapartner has a market share of around 75% at Düsseldorf airport.

The background to the strike was a redistribution of handling duties at Düsseldorf Airport, in which Aviapartner had no chance. As a result, 700 jobs are at risk, Verdi said. Aviapartner is now turning down a social plan with compensation for employees threatened with job loss.

However, the airport contradicted this representation in a statement. There it was said that there were positive results in the airport’s negotiations with groundhandling service providers. “The partners involved are on the home stretch, both when it comes to acquisitions and concrete procurement conditions for employees already working at the airport.”
