Last December, the news spread quickly across the globe. In a touching video, Celine Dion revealed she has a rare neurological condition called stiff-person syndrome. This disease affects one in a million people. Not surprisingly, Celine had decided to cancel or postpone all concerts on her world tour.
On the day of the announcement, Claudette Dion quickly decided to turn off her phone. “I didn’t want to do the online ‘Brawling’ show,” she told the Journal. I’ve had a lot of calls, but I turned off my phone because I was having trouble talking about it.”
A month and a half later, Claudette Dion agrees to take care of her younger sister’s illness. “She did it with aplomb, she mentions the video that Céline shared. I know she held back. It wasn’t in a crisis, in tears, in distress. She explained what it was. But I trust that life will give her back what she gave. Because she’s an extremely intelligent, extremely generous, talented girl. And also in love with life. […] The best I can do is throw positives. I firmly believe in the power of love. I wish him the best of luck, that’s for sure.”
In Denver for treatments
When asked if she’s heard from Celine lately, Claudette says she knows she’s in Denver, Colorado these days. “She is surrounded by specialists. »
“She’s been working on this child since she was 12,” Claudette continues with her sister. She didn’t really have a teenager. She has always worked. She has always given herself. It’s a choice. She had no sympathy. But at the same time to have given so much and to be able to enjoy the rest of his life with his aging children…”
Claudette Dion can’t imagine a future where Celine wouldn’t return to the stage. “I can’t imagine it like that. She is so in her place, so on her X. Instead of crying about her fate, I try to send her positive vibes and make sure that one day she will go on stage.
What did Claudette think of Rolling Stone magazine’s famous list that Celine didn’t include in their list of the 200 greatest singers in history? She bursts out laughing. “It makes no sense. They used Françoise Hardy, who I admire but who never delivered what Piaf delivered in France. If you’re able to turn on Françoise Hardy and forget about Piaf… I don’t think they deserve high praise with their list. »
However, she is happy to see that Celine’s omission from this list has gone around the world. “It was a beautiful testimony of connection and love. »
A concert dedicated to Celine
On March 30th, at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, Claudette Dion and Richard Abel dedicate their concert to Céline, who will then be celebrating her 55th birthday. The pianist will embark on a tour to highlight his 40-year career. He decided to invite Claudette to join him on stage.
“There will be 600 or 700 people in the room this afternoon,” Claudette said. We’re going to blackmail the whole gang. All these emotions need to be transported to Celine to tell her how much we admire her, how much we love her and how bored we are.
“I made people laugh for a long time when I said with the ADISQ trophy: That’s Céliiiiine! continues Claudette. But on March 30th at the casino, nobody prevents me from saying: Whose birthday is it today? To Celiiiine! There is no one who will stop me from saying it. After all, I’m his godmother. i have a privilege [rires]»
