If some boxing fans are already dreaming of a possible fight between Artur Beterbiev and Jean Pascal, the latter knows only too well that he must first concentrate on his next opponent: the German Michael Eifert.

“I’m suspicious of Michael Eifert,” Pascal said Monday morning during a video conference call to promote his IBF playoff, now scheduled for March 16 at the Place Bell in Laval. I know how it feels I’ve been in his place before. He wants to prove to the world that he is part of the world elite.
Pascal (36-6-1, 20 KOs) will then fight Eifert (11-1, 4 KOs) in Quebec for the first time since July 2018.
“I’m really excited to be returning to Quebec after a five-year absence from the high school where he trains in Miami, Florida,” he said. That motivates me to train. I expect a very warm welcome.”
Supported by his supporters
It must be admitted that Pascal will have endured tumultuous moments after having his WBA Light Heavyweight Champion stripped of his title in the summer of 2021 after failing an anti-doping test. Most recently, last November, he was arrested for obstructing driving.
“I was in Quebec during the holiday season and the response from my supporters has been very positive,” said the 40-year-old boxer. I see no reconciliation, my Quebec supporters have always supported me.
“Jean deserves to come back here and get support,” noted Yvon Michel, co-organizer of the event. We are very proud to bring Jean home.”
The desire to impress
As for Beterbiev, remember he defeated Britain’s Anthony Yarde in London on Saturday. WBC, WBO and IBF champion Beterbiev may have to meet the winner of the duel between Pascal and Eifert. However, a unification fight between Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol remains another possibility. One thing is certain, the winner between Pascal and Eifert will be the mandatory contender for the IBF title.
“Winning won’t be enough for us, we have to impress,” launched Pascal. The best way to impress is to try the knockout. I’m not aiming for the knockout spot, but if I do my best, it could happen.
