The 42-year-old actress, who starred in Casino Royale in 2006, was set to star in a sci-fi film – A Patriot – before production shut down in October 2019.
She sued the production company White Lantern Films to get her C$1.3 million stamp despite the project’s cancellation.
But the British production company decided to counterattack by launching its own lawsuits against the actress, believing she harmed the film’s production.
The trial, which opened on Thursday, is expected to last nine days.
Called to the booth on Monday, black turtleneck and dark green blazer, Eva Green reiterated that she first “fell in love” with the film project addressing the climate crisis.
However, White Lantern Films’ attorneys believe the French actress has expressed “a lack of trust and dissatisfaction” with members of the production team.
They cite WhatsApp messages in which Eva Green is said to have called a member of the team “evil”, “sneaky sociopath”, “liar and madman”. She also reportedly called production manager Terry Bird an “idiot” and “a complete asshole.”
When asked that she qualified in a message to her agent as “weak” and “stupid” producer Adam Merrifield and screenwriter Dan Pringle, Eva Green responded that under the influence of emotion, she could have made offensive remarks, and apologized for his “inappropriate remarks”.
“I don’t know (…) sometimes my French side comes out,” she said. “Sometimes I say things out of emotion that I don’t really mean. Of course they are not weak or stupid.
“I don’t care about the money. I live to make good films, that’s my religion,” she added, emphasizing that as the filming progressed, she worried that the film would go bad and hurt her career.
