The club from Leeuwarden, a small community in the north of the Netherlands, announced this on Twitter on Tuesday.

Unsurprisingly, the Montreal team didn’t use the option linked to the Norwegian striker’s contract in November.

Bored with injuries, Johnsen never lived up to sporting director Olivier Renard’s expectations when he was offered a three-year deal in 2021.

The giant 31-year-old athlete didn’t play a Bleu Blanc Noir game in 2022. In his first season with the Montreal club, he scored twice in 26 appearances.

Johnsen, along with Victor Wanyama, was still one of only two CF Montreal players to earn more than $1 million last year.

Before moving to metropolitan Quebec, Johnsen developed in South Korea, Norway, Scotland and Bulgaria.

He had also completed a first stint in the Eredivisie where he stood out with ADO Den Haag in 2017-2018. His 19 goals had made him the second top scorer in the Dutch championship.

Johnsen will cross swords with ex-teammate Djordje Milhailovic, who will wear the colors of Alkmaar Zaanstreek in 2023.
