“I think we should never underestimate how often we tell our children that we love them because we never know when it will be the last time,” says Mylène Grenier, wiping away tears inexorably.

With the help of an interpreter, the 6-year-old girl’s hearing-impaired parents agreed to give a statement to the Journal to pay tribute to their “baby”.

Their little Lily died in a skiing accident in the Val Saint-Côme resort of Lanaudière on Sunday.

They said his absence had been felt at their home since the tragedy. Despite her young age, the little athlete moved the air in the family and brightened up everyone’s day.

Her big smile and open laugh made her a very lovable child. She often helped her parents to make themselves understood in public.

Lily’s 4-year-old younger sister is beginning to understand that her sister isn’t just a late sleeper. Since the accident, little Juliette has proudly worn the heart necklace that Lily had around her neck when she died.

“I told her that when she was bored she could shake it in her hands and that Lily will always be in her heart,” explains Ms. Grenier, touched, who wants to underscore the humanism and kindness of the hospital staff, according to Joliet.

Skiing was Lily’s favorite sport. She aspired to be a great skier like her father, Charles-Olivier Leblanc. He has already taken part in the Deaflympics, an international competition for the hearing impaired, and won medals.

On the slopes at the age of 2

She had started hitting the slopes at the age of two. During her accident, she took her second ski lesson in life. Although she was already comfortable on the slopes, the little girl had been given lessons for Christmas because she had expressed a desire to perfect her technique.

Lily’s parents cannot explain how such an accident could have happened and are shocked to see that very little information has been made available to them so far.

“We were told it was an accident and that she was strangled, but we can’t rule out negligence because we don’t know how it happened. A fall while skiing that happens. But being suffocated by a ski lift makes no sense. I need to know what happened to my daughter,” says Ms. Grenier, who does not rule out legal action.

In addition, before saying goodbye to her in the hospital, Ms. Grenier did not see any marks on her little girl’s neck. She therefore struggles to believe the suffocation hypothesis.

Upset

Lily’s father admits to being angry and feels that more ski instructors should be present at ski lessons with young children, especially when they are teenagers, as was the case with his daughter. He thinks we should have helped him faster.

“I think until we know the truth, the best thing to do is take care of our children. To all parents who ski: stay with your children, take care of them, because life can change very quickly. »
