Born in the town of Feira de Santana, Bahia, actor Ilya São Paulo died this Tuesday (31) at the age of 59. He was part of the cast of the telenovela Amor de Mãe in 2020, bringing the character Juarez to life. The death was confirmed by fellow worker Anselmo Vasconcelos on his Facebook profile.
Ilya was at home and was found dead this morning by his wife Claudia Provedel. He was the son of filmmaker Olney São Paulo and brother of actor Irwing São Paulo, Zeca from the soap opera A Viagem, who died of pancreatitis in early 2006.
Ilya was recently hospitalized at the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital in Rio to be treated for a serious shoulder injury.
“Claudia Provedel looked after him with love and companionship. I’ve followed that connection all these years since school. I’ve helped where I could, with his difficulties. I’m very moved by everything, by the stories of life and its ends. It is sad,” wrote Anselmo Vasconcellos.
His career began in cinema when he worked as a director of the documentary “Riachão do Jacuipe”. In 1974 he directed the short film Memoirs of a Fantoche. In the same year he also acted in the play “O Amuleto de Ogum”.
Ilya’s first job on television was at TV Globo in 1992 as one of the characters in the soap opera “Perigosas Peruas”. In 1995 he was one of the protagonists of the plot of “Irmãos Coragem”. The following year he filmed: “Em Nome do Padre” and one of the episodes of “Você Decide”, a program in which he appeared a few times. AND
After several jobs at Globo, he signed a contract with Record TV in 2009, where he acted both in the series “A Lei eo Crime” (2009) and in the soap operas “Bela, a Feia” and “Ribeirão do Tempo” from 2010. In 2012 he returned to Globo in the soap opera Gabriela.
