The FBI, the US government’s law enforcement agency, conducted a search of President Joe Biden’s home this Wednesday, April 1. The Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, home was searched as part of an investigation into the state of documents secrets found at a former Biden office.
“Today, with the full support and cooperation of the President, the Department of Justice is conducting a planned search of his home in Rehoboth, Delaware,” Biden’s personal attorney Bob Bauer said in a statement.
“In accordance with standard Department of Justice procedures, in the interest of safety and operational integrity, he attempted to complete this work without prior public notice, and we have agreed to work together,” Bauer said. “Today’s search is another step in a full and timely process by the Department of Justice, which we will continue to fully support and facilitate. At the end of today’s quest we will have more information.”
Wednesday’s FBI raid marks the third time federal agents have searched properties linked to Biden for classified documents. On January 20, several items containing classified information were found at his home in Wilmington, also in the state of Delaware.
Previously, last November, the FBI raided Biden’s personal office at the Penn Biden Center think tank in Washington. The raid came after Biden’s lawyers found confidential government files in a locked office cabinet and notified authorities.
Biden bought his home in Rehoboth after leaving the vice presidency. He and First Lady Jill often spend a couple of weekends there — most recently Jan. 2023.
Also on Wednesday, the Justice Department announced that Special Counsel Robert Hur, who was selected by Attorney General Merrick Garland to take the Biden Papers case, has officially commenced work.
Hur previously served as the US Attorney for Maryland, a position he was appointed to by thenPresident Donald Trump. Democrats hope that the fact that he was nominated by the Republican leader will help give the investigation more credibility in the eyes of the opposition.
