The suspect, who will be visited by investigators in the next few hours, also suffered a stab wound to the upper body.
Both men were taken to the hospital but there is no fear for their lives.
It was the screams of a man from a flat on Sherbrooke Street, near Beauclerck Street, that prompted people to call 911 around 6:20 p.m.
“When the police arrive at the scene, they locate the two men, aged 19 and 34. They were both conscious and had stab wounds to their upper bodies,” said Constable Caroline Chèvrefils, spokeswoman for the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
“According to initial information, a possible conflict between the two men would have erupted and at that point the suspect would have wounded the victim with a bladed weapon,” Agent Chèvrefils said later in the evening.
A security perimeter has been established to protect the scene for SPVM investigators and forensic identification technicians who will attempt to clarify the circumstances of this armed attack.
The SPVM investigation is ongoing.
