On Wednesday, February 1, employees of the contracted company found a statue of the god Hercules while repairing the sewer system in a park in Rome. The relic dates from the Roman Empire (27 BC to 476 AD) and was found near the Via Appia, one of the most important roads in Italy.
The structure of the park dates back to the last century and as a result it collapsed, additionally causing the opening of cracks in the earth. As usual in Rome, excavations that reach depths of up to 20 meters are accompanied by archaeologists.

Terms of the Statue of Hercules
The statue is in good condition. “The photos give no idea of its true size: when I saw it, I was amazed,” said the park’s director, Simone Quilici, to the Corriere newspaper. “She was probably an important person at the time.”
For the director, “It’s not uncommon to find ancient artifacts in Rome, but in this case you feel like it’s a particularly important find.” The Italian Ministry of Culture announced the restoration of the statue of Hercules.
