For McVie’s forthcoming tribute during the Grammy Awards broadcast, Fleetwood will be joined by Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt for a performance of their song Songbird, according to the Grammy Awards website.
McVie wrote and sang Songbird, which she later revealed as the song she is most proud of writing, and which appeared on the band’s classic studio album Rumors (1977).
“For some special reason I wrote ‘Songbird’ in half an hour; I could never figure out how I did it,” she told People in 2017, before explaining more about how it came to life. “I woke up in the middle of the night and the song was there in my head, chords, lyrics, melody, everything. I played it in my bedroom and didn’t have anything to stick it on. So I had to stay up all night so I wouldn’t forget, and I got into the studio the next morning and had (producer) Ken Callait put it on a two track. That’s how the song came about. I don’t know where that came from.’
McVie began working with Fleetwood Mac in 1968 and became an official member two years later.
While Stevie Nicks and longtime member Lindsay Buckingham received much praise and accolades for their songwriting and vocals, McVie actually wrote or wrote many of the band’s hits, including Don’t Stop (Rumours 1977), Everywhere (Tango In The Night 1987) , You Make Loving Fun (Rumours 1977), Say You Love Me (Fleetwood Mac 1975), Hold Me (Mirage 1982), Over My Head (Fleetwood Mac 1975), Little Lies (Tango In The Night 1987), Think About, among others Me (Tusk 1979) and Love In Store (Mirage 1982).
McVie died on November 30, 2022 at the age of 79 after being hospitalized after a short illness.
Details of the illness were not released to the public, but the band released a statement shortly after her death, calling her “the best musician you can have in your band and the best friend you can have in your life.” can” described.
Nicks, 74, who joined the band with Buckingham in 1975, later called McVie her “best friend in the whole world.”
