This is the second time the 21-year-old athlete has been promoted to the National Hockey League (NHL) after playing four games at Bettman Circuit between Jan. 21-27.
Involuntarily, Pelletier found himself at the heart of a controversy after his first career duel in the NHL. Asked about the Quebec native’s performance, head coach Darryl Sutter played comedy.
“Jakob Pelletier,” Sutter repeated. What number is he?” Then he read all the stats of No. 49 by adjusting his glasses and looking at the score sheet.
This behavior of the 64-year-old was lamented throughout the ice hockey world.
In four games with the Flames, Pelletier didn’t accumulate a point and maintained a +0 neutral difference.
The 2019 first-round pick (26th overall) is having a fantastic season with the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL. In 33 games, he hit the target 16 times and provided 20 assists for 36 points.
Samuel Blais back in New York
Quebecois Samuel Blais was recalled by the New York Rangers on Sunday, he who served physical conditioning with the Wolf Pack of Hartford of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Montmagny native has struggled to settle in the National Hockey League (NHL) since injuring his right knee on November 14, 2021. Before he was sent to the development department, the former Victoriaville Tigres and Charlottetown Islanders had been left out six times in Rangers’ last 16 games.
With the Wolf Pack, the striker hit the bull’s eye four times in five games. Previously at Bettman circuit, he had four assists and has been goalless in 38 games this season.
Blais was acquired by the Rangers in a July 2021 trade with the St. Louis Blues. In return, the organization got their hands on Missouri forward Pavel Buchnevich. The Russia winger has accumulated 114 points in 111 games since the swap. For his part, Blais had nine assists in 52 games.
Also, the Rangers announced that they have recalled forward Will Cuylle from Hartford Academy. The 21-year-old was left out of the scoring charts in both NHL games this season.
In the AHL, the 2020 second-round pick has 21 points, including 14 goals, in 42 games in 2022-23.
