During his tenure, the Prime Minister acted as an intermediary between the Ukrainian and Russian governments.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February, the former Israeli prime minister has been one of the few Western leaders to travel to Moscow to meet the Kremlin’s master.
Although talks between the two leaders did not result in a solution to end hostilities, Naftali Bennett said there was a need to work with Putin, particularly at a meeting that took place last March.
In a long interview, he returned to his mandate. The war in Ukraine has been the subject of several issues, including the rumor that Vladimir Putin was attempting to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“I asked him, ‘What about this rumor? [M. Poutine]do you want to kill Zelensky?”
Vladimir Putin reportedly replied: “I will not kill Zelensky.”

A few hours after his meeting in the Kremlin, Bennett contacted the Ukrainian president to draw his attention to Putin’s statements.
“Hear [M. Zelensky]I just finished the encounter, he won’t kill you […] I can tell you 100% he’s not going to kill you.”
Among other topics of conversation with Vladimir Putin, the Israeli politician points out that Zelenskyy promised him that Ukraine would not join NATO.
Moreover, the Russian President would have accepted that Ukraine could always develop its army.
Recall that Naftali Bennett was Prime Minister of Israel for six months.
