Madonna felt the need to set the record straight after her Grammy Awards speech on Sunday sparked a spate of derogatory comments about her face.

“Unrecognizable,” “swollen,” “it can’t be her,” “failed plastic surgery,” the 64-year-old singer was showered with a barrage of unflattering comments on social media.
Madonna expressed irritation in a very warm Instagram post.
“Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech about thanking artists like Sam and Kim for being fearless, a lot of people chose to just talk about the close-ups of me, taken with a telephoto lens by a press photographer were made in someone’s face!!” she affirms.
Madonna adds that this is yet another sign of “ageism and misogyny” that are rampant in the world we live in.
“I’ve never apologized for any of the creative choices I’ve made or how I look or dress, and I won’t start. I’ve been put down by the media since the beginning of my career, but I understand that this is all just an ordeal and I’m excited to be a pioneer to make it easier for all the women behind me in the years to come. In the words of Beyoncé, “You’re not going to break my soul❞,” she argues.
Madonna promises to continue to behave subversively and to push boundaries, to oppose patriarchy and above all to enjoy life.
