“After careful consideration, I am resigning for personal reasons. Also, my health has been failing for a few weeks and I had to make this decision,” the 49-year-old said in a press release from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) organization.
“I’m leaving the organization, but I have strong beliefs in the people in place. Despite the recent difficult months, I have full confidence in the group of coaches and players for the future.
Boucher had been in charge since the start of the 2019-2020 season and had a valid contract until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
“I have accepted Philippe’s resignation and I understand the reasons for his departure. I wish him every success in his future projects,” said Voltigeurs President Éric Verrier.
“Our vice president of ice hockey for a short time [Stephan Leblanc] take over in order to continue ice hockey operations as usual. He will be surrounded by Steve Ahern and Jean-Sébastien Perron. After that, we need to form a strong and competent committee to guide our selection towards the best possible candidate.
So far in 2022-23, the Voltigeurs have held a 19-24-5 record and are 13th overall in QMJHL standings.
