Technical issues on Twitter on the day the 4,000 character tweet was published

Tens of thousands of Twitter users on Wednesday reported technical issues on the platform, notably not being able to tweet on the day the social network launched a lengthy format that can contain up to 4,000 characters per message.

More than 45,000 incident reports were recorded by the Downdetector site, mostly after 21:30 GMT.

According to website The Information, Twitter’s major shareholder and CEO Elon Musk has asked the platform’s teams to suspend all development until these technical difficulties are resolved.

According to this technical publication, the error could be related to modifications that prevent user requests from being routed to the correct destination.

On the social network, dozens of users said they hadn’t posted any messages, and Twitter told them they’d exceeded the “daily limit” on the number of tweets.

However, they reported success in sending delayed release messages.

American media noted that the Twitter support site on Wednesday added mention of a limit of 2,400 tweets per day.

Other users have indicated that they can no longer use the TweetDeck application, a platform that allows you to view multiple accounts and lists on the same screen.

None of the company’s Twitter accounts reported the incident on Wednesday, nor did Elon Musk’s.

These disruptions come on the day of the launch of a new tweet format reserved for subscribers to Twitter Blue, the new paid service billed at eight dollars a month in the US.

Twitter Blue members can now post messages up to 4,000 characters long, while the limit for others remains at 280 characters.

All users of the platform can retweet them, including those who are not subscribed to Twitter Blue, the social network said on its user support website.
