Former CF Montreal head coach Thierry Henry has been forced to look for a job as he has not been taken on by the Belgian Men’s Football Federation’s new management group.
The Frenchman was at the end of his contract and has not been renewed by the Red Devils, confirmed the selection’s president and general manager Peter Bossaerts. In a press briefing on Wednesday, they introduced the team’s new driver, Domenico Tedesco.
On January 9, coach Roberto Martinez left Belgium to join Portugal. It was he who brought Henry to a second spell with the Devils before Euro 2021 was controversial.
The former striker was also part of the Spaniard’s squad from 2016 to 2018.
The 45-year-old, valued by the players, was seen as a good candidate to lead Belgium, who have been struggling since their group stage elimination at the World Cup in Qatar.
Henry succeeded Rémi Garde in Montreal in November 2019. After a single season at the helm of the team, still marred by the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to step down in February 2021.
He held a record of nine wins, 16 losses and four draws in all competitions with the Bleu-Blanc-Noir.
The former Barcelona, Arsenal and New York Red Bulls star also led AS Monaco in 2018 and 2019.
