The American football crowd next Sunday has giants like Exceldor salivating, who estimate that Quebecers should be eating three times as many wings this year, or between five and ten million.

“The Exceldor Cooperative derives 30-35% of its annual sales from frozen wings in anticipation of the Super Bowl game,” said spokeswoman Isabelle Dorval.
Several months of preparation
“Our teams prepare several months in advance – as early as the fall – to build up sufficient stocks to meet the high demand,” she adds.
In the US, the National Chicken Council estimates that weekend chicken wing consumption is likely to increase slightly.
“We’re talking about a 2% increase compared to last year, with a record 1.45 billion blades,” explains Exceldor’s Isabelle Dorval.
Olympic Saliva
But even though chicken wings will cost more this year due to inflation, Olymel expects to sell a good 3% to 5% more this year.
“Labor and transportation costs have increased. Wings are up 10% to 15% year over year,” Richard Davies, Olymel’s senior vice president of sales, told the Journal.
“We are not unattainable when it comes to values. It stays within the capabilities of the consumer,” he concludes.
