Guido Flores was presented at the Peruvian Sports Institute and made his goals clear: “Our vision is aimed at enhancing the image of the IPD.”
Has been physically active all his life Guido Flores Marchan assumes the post of President of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), charged with projects that seek the promotion and dissemination of sport in our country, giving priority to the athlete.
Flores, Doctor of Pedagogy, graduate and professor of the National Pedagogical University Enrique Guzmán y Valle, passed on his experience and knowledge in various seminars that he intends to capture today as director of the IPD. The new President of the Peruvian Sports Institute has as a challenge the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 and the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
“I am a university professor at a public university. I have been working for more than 30 years in undergraduate studies in public institutions, much more in the career of teaching physical education in a professional way, which allows us to deal with the problem of the situation in the national and international context in which the activity is located carried out, physical and sports activities, much more in our country,” he stressed.
The constant changes in the mind of the IPD —five presidents in 2022— questions the work that can be done from now on, but Flores has made its goals and the way it works clear.

“I know the constant change is uncomfortable and it will make you wonder where we are going. This leads to instability, which is why, regardless of the person or management that was done, should not be ruled out. It’s not about erasing and starting over, there is no time for that, that would be inappropriate and unprofessional for a management that has orderly work in mind. Our point of view aims to enhance the image of the IPD not only as an image, but as a generating function for the promotion and development of sport, which takes care of association, mass, school and university sport, within a planning management, not to wait and see act. We must ask for help from the related institutions, the IPD must not be an island, it must have an inclusive view where everything adds up within one order,” he explained.
Flowers March confirms that he will meet with the National Sports Federations and with high-performance athletes thinking about upcoming international competitions such as the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“We had a meeting with the outgoing President (Juan Carlos Hurta) gave us his perspective as a professional gesture and a job is already planned. The federations have a medium and long-term task, Pan-American cycle, Olympic cycle, which must be respected. We have to give them the support, the support, but we have to make sure that every association has an orderly, planned management job and anticipates where we have the best chances. We’ve been given a little rough outline, the team will look into this and join forces from now on. We have to support it, it’s Peru’s image, the athlete is our priority. The entire management of the IPD rests with the athlete, with the human being. It would be pointless to be here, to have infrastructure, logistics that are not bearing fruit or where the athlete does not feel recognized or supported.”
And he added: “We will meet with the federations and athletes, but first we will put our house in order. There are a number of problems, but we have strengths. The athlete must not waste time. We look at coordination with associations and regions because they need to feel that there is a board that not only selects them but also supports them. The majority of top athletes come from this region, from this school in a small county, and unless we give them the basic tools, it will be difficult to save them. He IPD You don’t just have to have this vision in Lima.”
