Houston died from mixing a cocktail of Xanax and other strong prescription drugs with alcohol, it was reported in 2012.

According to gossip website TMZ, her family was allegedly told by Los Angeles County coroners that she didn’t have enough water in her lungs to conclude that she drowned in her luxury hotel bathtub and, in fact, died before her head went under water went.

The revelations come as it emerged that their daughter Bobbi Kristina, 18, allegedly fell asleep in a bathtub at the same Beverly Hilton hotel just 24 hours before her mother’s death.

TMZ claims security was called to unlock the door and assist the 18-year-old on the occasion.

Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown, with whom she had a notoriously tumultuous 14-year relationship marred by drug use, was in Nashville at the time of her death and his daughter’s trips to the hospital.

Brown – who she partially blamed for her drug problems – was said to have been “in and out of crying fits” when she heard the news of her death.

But he still performed on stage with his band New Edition.

He shouted ‘I love you Whitney!’ in the middle of the concert.
