The Civil Guard arrested for the second time in less than a week the suspected perpetrator of a fatal double impact last Saturday in the town of Almayate (Vélez-Málaga) in Málaga. The man was arrested this weekend after he reported to the National Police that his car had been stolen and he found it parked with a heavy hit. He was released on charges but the Civil Guard arrested him again this morning for a crime of false denunciation, in addition to two other crimes against road safety and involuntary manslaughter.
Early on Saturday, February 4, a man appeared at the Vélez-Málaga National Police Station to report that he had parked his vehicle near his home the night before and that he had hit it the following day with a major hit had found in the front area. Agents checked the vehicle, which, to the police officers’ surprise, was parked in the same spot where it was allegedly stolen. His lock showed no signs of being broken open, but the bodywork showed various damage and traces of blood.
That same morning, a team of toilets, wanting to go to an alert, put their colleagues from the 112 Andalusia emergency service on alert after finding two lifeless bodies on the shoulder of the N-340 highway at Almayate, Vélez-Málaga district had about 1,700 inhabitants. They were a 73-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, both of whom showed signs of being hit by a vehicle whose driver had fled. The Civil Guard quickly linked both cases and arrested the vehicle’s owner for his alleged connection to the deaths of the two people. He underwent a drug test and another for alcohol, but both came back negative. He was later released on charges.
The investigation continued throughout the week and agents have uncovered new evidence linking this man to the double hit-and-run. And they’ve arrested him again, this time, investigated for an alleged felony of pretending to commit a crime – for making an alleged false report – on top of the previous charges of reckless manslaughter resulting from the hit-and-run and against road safety for escaping from the zone.
After being tried this Friday morning, the Court of First Instance and Order No. 2 of Vélez-Málaga ordered his provisional release because the prosecutor’s office did not request his confinement to prison, according to Andalusia Supreme Court sources (TSJA) . As a precaution, the detainee must appear in court on the 2nd and 16th of each month. The case was left to the Court of Instance and Order No. 1 of Vélez-Málaga, which will continue the investigation over the next few days.
