Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis will play sisters and main characters in Amazon’s new detective series. shift will be the television adaptation of writer Patricia Cornwell’s crime series starring Kay Scarpetta.
“Scarpetta friends, we’ve waited 33 years for this…” writer Patricia Cornwell wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of famous actresses Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in front of some of their most popular novels.
Nicole Kidman, 55, was offered the role of Kay Scarpetta, the medical examiner who has appeared in 26 Patricia Cornwell novels since 1990. She has a penchant for opera and Italian food. Before moving to Massachusetts, she was chief medical officer in Virginia.
Jamie Lee Curtis – an Oscar nominee for her role in the film All At Once – landed the 64-year-old actress the role of Dorothy, the whimsical sister of the spirited doctor with whom the heroine has a conflicted relationship. Dorothy is also the mother of Lucy, a niece who is guarded by Kay Scarpetta and whom she teaches the tricks of her craft.
According to Deadline, this television project grew out of the friendship Jamie Lee Curtis shares with the 66-year-old writer. As a huge fan of Cornwell’s book series, the actress could have persuaded them to make a TV series out of it. The two leads will also serve as executive producers for the series. According to Deadline, the series will benefit from a two-season, eight-episode deal.
Patricia Cornwell’s books have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. Livid, the latest novel in Kay Scarpetta’s series, was published in 2022.
