“His Legacy In One Word: Champion”: LeBron James, Serena Williams and Michael Phelps lead a stunning tribute to Tom Brady on Super Bowl game day after the legendary quarterback retired last week at the age of 45

LeBron James and Serena Williams have paid tribute to Tom Brady in a stunning video that chronicles the legendary quarterback’s career before the Super Bowl.

Brady will be a spectator today and the seven-time champion will be watching, knowing he will not have a chance to play in America’s Ultimate Game after announcing his retirement last week at the age of 45.

Michael Phelps and Jordan Spieth also appear in the video with James and Williams to reflect on what Brady means to them.

It’s the king whose tribute is strongest – his words come days after the 38-year-old Lakers star became the NBA’s all-time top scorer.

“We’ve all heard that Father Time is undefeated,” says James. “But while we’re in the position that we’re in, we’re trying to slow it down because we have so much more to give to the sport.

“We don’t just strive to be great. We strive to be the greatest of all time. To see Tom at any age play the best football anyone has ever played is very inspiring. Tom Brady’s legacy is one word: champion.”

Williams, who announced her retirement from tennis ahead of the 2022 US Open with 23 Grand Slam titles, said: “Time is of the essence for an athlete.

“Time can be of the essence and it can affect whether an athlete can win the one game that they needed.

“The hardest part about maintaining greatness over a period of time is people want to catch up with you. You have to make things better – you have to surprise people. You have to go out and do something different every year because they come for me.

“The very first Super Bowl Brady played, he didn’t let the occasion intimidate him. He sort of looked him straight in the eye and said, “I’m going to bring you down, I don’t care who I’m playing against, I don’t care what the stats say, I’m going to do it.”

Phelps, a 23-time Olympic gold medalist, said, “I’m not afraid to dream as big as I can. I’m not afraid to think of things no one thinks of.

I never back down from a challenge. You see Tom Brady – he never shys away from a challenge.

Three-time Golf Major winner Jordan Spieth said: “What I think makes Tom Brady great is his mental ability to slow down time and make decisions so quickly.

“Tom Brady’s greatest legacy will certainly be the enduring greatness he has displayed throughout his career – I mean, it’s just insane.”

Brady announced his retirement on February 1 in a video he posted to social media.

“I’m finally retiring. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I thought I’d just hit record and let you guys know first.

“It’s not going to be long-winded. All you get is a super emotional farewell essay and I’ve used up mine last year, so…really, thank you to each and every one of you who support me.

“My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever, there are too many. Thanks guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change anything. Love you all.’

In the meantime. The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles later Sunday in the Super Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona.
