An explosion caused by a gas leak on Monday morning destroyed several apartment buildings under construction in the Orleans district of eastern Ottawa, Ontario.
The Ottawa Fire Department tweeted that the exposure took place just after 6 a.m. in the Tenth Line and Shallow Pond areas.
“Gas is still leaking at this point,” said the Ottawa Fire Department, which dispatched several vehicles to the scene.
Eight people were treated by paramedics, including a man who was taken to hospital.

The Ottawa Police Department has announced the closure of several roads, including Tenth Line Road between Sweetvalley Street and Harvest Valley Avenue.
Buses have also been dispatched to pick up evacuated residents, the SPO added, urging people to avoid the area.
