In a statement, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “welcomes” the Syrian regime’s decision to “open the two border crossings, Bab Al-Salam and Al Ra’ee, between Turkey and northwestern Syria for an initial period of three months”. 2:04 p.m.: A newborn baby was found alive under the rubble six days after the earthquake. Halit Ali Talha, 21 days old, was protected by the body of his mother who died when a building collapsed.
11:12 a.m.: Glimmers of hope continue to support rescuers’ morale. According to the Turkish press, seven more people were rescued alive from the rubble last night. Including a 3-year-old child and a 60-year-old woman.
12:54 p.m .: How can you help the Syrian population? Only one border crossing currently allows the rebel areas to be supplied from Turkey. Bashar Al-Assad is “open to the idea of considering cross-border access points,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus yesterday after meeting the Syrian president in Damascus.
