The Rio de Janeiro Judiciary (TJRJ) ruled that the 50yearold Latino singer’s property will be mortgaged to pay off debts with the condominium in a prime area of the capital, Rio de Janeiro, where he still resides. According to the lawsuit, the amount owed by the artist exceeds BRL 530,000 and the debt has been mounting since 2016.
The decision that the property can be used to pay off the debt comes after an evaluation last week (Wednesday, 8) by decision of Rio’s 7th Civil Court. The singer’s residence is located in the Quintas do Rio condominium in Barra da Tijuca in the West Zone. According to a report by G1, the luxury residence’s administration has been collecting payment of condominium maintenance fees since 2016.

At the beginning of the process, the artist owed R$ 107,000, today it is over half a million. According to a report by G1, the singer’s defense reported that Latino reached a legal settlement amid the pandemic but eventually chose to resolve the issue in court after being banned from using the condo’s common areas.

The decision not to honor the agreement signed with the condominium due to the ban on access to common areas, the defense informs: “Such a measure of the condominium violates the right to come and go, as well as the Civil Code, since the right of the use of the Common areas arise from ownership rights and are unrelated to the payment of homeownership quotas. In view of this, the Latino singer decided to settle the dispute at the court level,” reads the statement, according to a G1 article.
