Luis Miguel announces his return to the stage

Mexican singer Luis Miguel announced his return to the stage on Tuesday, posting a photo with his face, his name and a caption reading: “Luis Miguel. Tour 2023”. With this note, the artist known as El Sol de México opens the doors to a new tour five years after his last major concert in the country, which took place in November 2018 at the National Auditorium in Mexico City.

Luis Miguel, 52, will return to the stage to try to counter the bittersweet taste he left with his Mexican fans during his last performance in the capital, in which he started half an hour late, missed several times and half songs sang. which caused the boos of the public. Added to this is the criticism on social networks, in which the artist was accused of being drunk during the performance.

After ending his Mexico tour forever — which included around 150 concerts in 15 different countries, ending in Las Vegas — Luis Miguel’s image reached the small screens thanks to Netflix. The winning streak of his life, created under his own watch, spans from the peak of his career to the darkest period of his life when he faced financial troubles and a professional crisis that almost ended more than three decades of his life.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, he began his artistic career in the 1980s, the heyday of Spanish pop. The debut did not last long. In 1981 – at the age of only 11 – he gave his first concert with great success at the wedding of the daughter of the then President of Mexico, José López Portillo (1976-1982), thanks to the support of the former police chief of Mexico’s capital, Arturo Durazo. A year later he released his first album: 1+1=2 Lovers.

Among his most popular songs, La incondicional (1988) stands out, which Rolling Stone magazine ranked as the 15th most important song of Latin pop. Luis Miguel was the first Mexican artist to reach more than 5,000 million views on Spotify and his official YouTube channel has more than 131 million views per month.
