The outsider Thought they had made a verbal commitment Terence Ross after the veteran wing secured a buyout from the magicreports Marc Stein in a Substack story.
Dallas found out Saturday night that Ross voted that to sunbathe instead of this. It’s possible Ross had a financial motive, since Phoenix had money left over from their midlevel exception while Dallas could only offer the prorated veteran minimum.
The Mavs turned Justin vacation after being spurned by Ross.

- Kyrie Irving had a message for the media during his introductory press conference on Monday. He asked not to ask ESPN Relays’ Tim MacMahon about his future plans beyond this season. Irving will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. “It creates unwarranted distractions for us and our team,” Irving said. “I’ve dealt with this before, and it’s very emotionally draining to ask questions like, ‘What’s the long term? What’s the long term?’”
- Although Irving might turn out to be a temp, GM Nico Harrison said he had no qualms about acquiring the Quicksilver Guardian MacMahon tweets. “I don’t see any risk at all. I actually see a risk in not doing it,” Harrison said.
- The Athletic’s Tim Cato takes a look at the early returns on the Luke Doncic-Irving partnership. Cato notes that the trade has eaten into the depths of the Mavs and created more defensive issues. On the other hand, the offense is buzzing when they’ve played together and the team is more competitive when Doncic needs a breather.
- With the Mavs down 2-0 and Doncic and Irving playing together, Doncic is excited about his new backcourt partner, MacMahon writes. “He’s a great basketball player and I think it’s going to be really fun,” Doncic said.
