CHARLOTTE, NC — Six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan is celebrating his 60th birthday on Friday with a $10 million donation to Make-A-Wish.
It is the largest donation ever received from an individual in the organization’s 43-year history.
Jordan hopes his decision to celebrate his birthday by donating to Make-A-Wish will inspire others to make wishes come true for the children who are still waiting for their wishes to come true.
“For the past 34 years it has been an honor to work with Make-A-Wish and help bring smiles and happiness to so many children,” Jordan said in a press release. “Seeing her strength and resilience at such a difficult time in her life was truly inspirational.”
Jordan, now owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, first endorsed Make-A-Wish in 1989.
He has granted hundreds of wishes to children around the world and remains one of the most sought after celebrity wish granters. He was named Make-A-Wish’s Chief Wish Ambassador in 2008 for what the organization described as the “life-changing impact he had on wish children and their families.”
“I can’t think of a better birthday present than to see others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic when their wish comes true,” Jordan said.
