“Woody Woodpecker‘, known as ‘Picapau’ in Brazil, has become one of the most successful animated series on television. The main character is characterized by being crazy and funny.
Although it wasn’t the first style in the 1940s, it certainly occupies a prominent place among them. The woodpecker was created in 1940 by designer Walter Lantz.
Following the same fate as names like Warner Bros’ Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, he first appeared as a bird with a grotesque appearance and went through changes over the years until he reached what everyone knows.
The drawings were first broadcast on television in 1957 during “The Woody Woodpecker Show.” Over time, Woody Woodpecker became Universal Studios’ mascot, just like Mickey was for Disney.
Lantz came up with the idea of creating the character while he was on his honeymoon, due to a bird of the same breed that tormented him on his wedding night.
