After several similar rumors for almost a year, Taiwanese outlet Digitimes Asia claims that production of a 15.5-inch MacBook Air M2 started in late January. But the announcements of other specialists raise doubts about the future of the Air range in 2023.

Rumors about Apple’s next computers have multiplied in recent days without necessarily contradicting one another. According to MacRumors, a new MacBook Air could see the light of day as early as the second half of this year, between April and June 2023.
Like the previous model in the Air range, this new version would feature the M2 chip, but this time in a 15.5-inch format. Information is based on an article published on February 15 by Digitimes Asia, a medium specializing in the semiconductor market.
The largest MacBook Air ever released
“Industry sources said this 15-inch MacBook Air began mass production after the Lunar New Year,” MacRumors quoted as saying on Jan. 22.
A product that would diversify the current range of new generation MacBook Air. If the first versions of Apple’s ultraportable computer were offered in two screen sizes (11 and 13 inches), the two models currently on sale are both in the 13.6-inch format: the MacBook Air M1 released in November 2020 and the updated MacBook Air M2 in July 2022. Therefore, if Apple confirms this, this future product would be the largest MacBook Air ever released.
Similar rumours… but not contradictory
Because nothing is confirmed yet. Although the Taiwanese media article is consistent with other hypothetical announcements of a 15-inch MacBook Air due in 2023, it adds to other rumors about the next products in the Air line.
Two days earlier, it was the turn of display supply chain analyst Ross Young to announce that 15.5-inch panels for an upcoming MacBook Air have entered production in April 2023 – this time equipped with the next M3 chip by Apple. Information confirmed by Digitimes Asia.
Conversely, the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo already mentioned in June 2022 two next 15.5-inch MacBooks with M2 and M2 Pro chips, planned for the second half of 2023 … stating that they may not be in the Air range.
All of this information doesn’t necessarily contradict each other, however: as MacRumors notes, the back-to-back releases of two MacBook Air models would be unusual, but still possible. We still have to wait for official announcements from Apple to see more clearly.
